How to merge PDF files online with GN PDF
Combining multiple PDFs into one is the single most common request we get. Whether you're stitching together a multi-chapter report, bundling expense receipts for accounting, or attaching a cover letter to a CV, the workflow looks the same: drop the files, arrange the order, hit merge. With GN PDF, the entire process completes in your browser — no file ever travels to a server, no waiting queue, no per-day limit.
Three quick reasons people pick GN PDF for merging
- It's actually free. Other "free" mergers cap you at 3 files, 5 MB, or one merge per hour. We don't.
- No watermark. Some online tools quietly stamp their logo onto your output. We never touch your file.
- It's instant for small jobs. A typical 2-file, 20-page merge finishes in under a second on modern hardware.
Step-by-step
- Click Choose PDFs or drag PDFs onto the dotted box above.
- The files appear in a numbered list. Drag rows up or down — or use the small ↑ / ↓ buttons — to fix the order.
- Remove a file by clicking its × icon. Add more files by dropping them onto the box again.
- Click Merge & Download. Your combined PDF will be saved to your device's Downloads folder.
Common situations where merging is the right move
Bundling exam answers
Many universities now accept scanned answer scripts in a single PDF. Students photograph each page, convert them with JPG to PDF, and then merge subject-wise to submit one tidy file.
Vendor invoices for accounting
Freelancers and small businesses often archive a month's invoices into one consolidated PDF. Use JPG to PDF on photographed receipts first, then merge the bills along with the digital invoices.
Property deals
Sale agreement + addendum + identity proofs + bank statements — these usually have to be submitted as one packet. Merge and email.
Job applications
Cover letter (PDF) + CV (PDF) + portfolio (PDF) → one master PDF that hiring managers actually open and skim.
Tips for a cleaner merged PDF
- Match page sizes. If one PDF is A4 and another is US Letter, the merged file will keep both sizes. That's usually fine, but if you need a uniform look, run each source through our compress tool first to normalise.
- Order before merging. Re-ordering inside a merged PDF is annoying; use the order controls on this page instead.
- Bookmarks and page numbers. The merged file preserves each source's own bookmarks. If you need a unified table of contents, you can add it manually after merging using our main editor.
- Encrypted files. If a source PDF is password-protected, run it through Unlock PDF first (you'll need the password).
About this tool
The Merge PDF page uses the open-source pdf-lib library running in your browser. Your files are read into memory, copied page-by-page into a new PDF document, and saved straight back to your device. There is no server-side step at any point. We don't need your file — and we don't have it.
