A pro PDF editor that respects your file — and your time.

Bring text, shapes, signatures and stamps forward or backward — true z-ordering, the way Photoshop and Figma do it. Keyboard shortcuts included.

Signatures, Done Properly

Draw with any colour, type, or upload — and we auto-clean the background. Save signatures locally for re-use across documents.

Image Library

Your uploaded photos, logos and stamps stay in your browser between sessions — no re-uploading every time.

The honest guide to free online PDF tools (and where GN PDF fits)

Search "free PDF editor online" and you'll get the same eight names every time. Most of them ask you to upload your file to their server, sign up for a "free" trial that quietly becomes a subscription, or stamp your output with a watermark you'll only notice after you've already emailed the file to your boss. GN PDF was built because people deserve a working, free, private PDF toolkit that does not behave that way. This page is the long version of what we built, who it is for, and how to get the most out of it.

If you've ever needed to quickly fix a typo in a PDF you received as final, combine 17 scanned receipts into one tax-deductible expense report, extract a single page from a 200-page government document, add a "DRAFT" watermark before circulating a contract, password-protect a bank statement before sharing on WhatsApp, convert a Word file to PDF without installing Microsoft Office, or pull tables out of a PDF invoice into Excel — you are exactly the person this site is for.

What "browser-based PDF tools" actually means (and why you should care)

When you use most online PDF services, your file leaves your computer. It is uploaded to a server in some data centre, processed there, and downloaded back as a result. That model has two huge downsides. The first is privacy — your bank statement, your contract, your medical report, your salary slip — every one of those files lands on a stranger's server, where you have to trust their security, their retention policy, their employees, and their country's laws. The second is throughput — server tools have a queue, a size cap, and a daily-uses limit because servers cost money.

GN PDF flips the model. Every single tool here is implemented in JavaScript that runs inside your own browser. The PDF, the password, the signature, the watermark, the spreadsheet — none of it ever touches our infrastructure. We literally cannot see your file because the network request to send it never happens. There is no upload step. There is no waiting queue. The 5-MB cap doesn't exist because we never paid for server bandwidth in the first place. The downside is that very large PDFs (200+ MB) may hit your browser's memory limit on low-end devices, but for the 98% of PDFs people work with day-to-day, browser processing is now indistinguishable from server processing in speed — sometimes faster, because no upload time.

The libraries that make this possible

GN PDF is built on a stack of carefully chosen open-source JavaScript libraries: Mozilla's pdf.js for reading and rendering PDFs, pdf-lib for writing and modifying them, Fabric.js for the interactive editor canvas, SheetJS for Excel parsing, Mammoth.js for DOCX parsing, docx.js for DOCX writing, PptxGenJS for PowerPoint generation, JSZip for the Office Open XML formats, and the browser's native Web Crypto API for AES encryption. Every one of these is battle-tested, audited, and used in production by major companies. We did not build a half-broken PDF parser from scratch — we wired the best open-source pieces together into one polished UI.

The 25+ tools — what each one is actually for

Edit & Sign — the core editor

The PDF Editor is the centrepiece of GN PDF. Click any text on any PDF page to edit it. We auto-detect the font family, size, weight, italic, underline and colour so the edit blends back in. Drop images and logos from your library. Sign with a real signature drawn from your phone or trackpad, or type and pick a script font, or upload a scanned signature image we'll clean up automatically. Add shapes, highlights, freehand strokes, whiteout patches, and rearrange the z-order of every element the way you would in Photoshop. Undo, redo, copy, paste, select-all and zoom with the same shortcuts you already know.

The Sign PDF tool is a focused workflow when all you need is to add your signature — useful for landlords, freelancers and contractors who sign one-page agreements all day. The OCR PDF tool extracts text from scanned documents so they become searchable and editable (in beta — English-first for now).

Organise — Merge, Split, Rotate, Organise, Compress

The four classic page-management tools, all without uploads. Merge PDF combines any number of PDFs in any order — useful for expense reports, contract bundles, exam packets and CV submissions. Split PDF extracts specific pages or page ranges as separate files — perfect for sharing only the relevant chapter. Rotate PDF permanently rotates pages that scanned in upside-down or sideways. Organise PDF lets you drag-reorder pages, delete unwanted ones, and insert blank pages. Compress PDF shrinks the file for email attachments, WhatsApp uploads, government portals (most of which cap PDF attachments at 2-5 MB), and slow connections.

Convert to PDF — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, JPG, PNG, WebP

The seven conversion-into-PDF tools cover almost every file you'll ever want as a PDF. Word to PDF renders your .docx with headings, tables, lists, images and hyperlinks preserved. Excel to PDF renders multi-sheet workbooks with options for fit-to-width, header repeat, zebra stripes and gridlines. PowerPoint to PDF turns .pptx decks into share-ready PDFs with optional speaker notes. HTML to PDF handles three modes: paste a URL, paste raw HTML, or upload an .html file. JPG to PDF, PNG to PDF and WebP to PDF bundle photos and screenshots into one neat document with order control, page-size and margin options.

Convert from PDF — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG, WebP, Text

The seven conversion-out-of-PDF tools are the mirror image. PDF to Word rebuilds a fully editable .docx by clustering text runs into paragraphs and detecting headings. PDF to Excel uses column-alignment heuristics to extract tables — invoices, bank statements, price lists, lab data. PDF to PowerPoint turns every page into a slide with overlaid editable text boxes. PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG and PDF to WebP rasterise pages at the DPI you choose. PDF to Text pulls the raw text out for downstream use in Notes, Word, ChatGPT or any analysis tool. Security — Unlock, Protect, Redact, Watermark

The four security tools cover the entire lifecycle of a sensitive document. Unlock PDF removes the password from a file you own (you supply the current password). Protect PDF adds AES-256 encryption with a fresh password and granular permissions (allow/deny printing, copying, modifying, annotating). Redact PDF permanently burns black bars over sensitive text — drawn by hand or by find-and-mark-all-occurrences search. Watermark PDF adds a "DRAFT", "CONFIDENTIAL", "PAID" or custom logo watermark across every page with full control over position, rotation, opacity and page range.

The privacy story — explained without the marketing

You should be sceptical of any site that calls itself "private". Most are not. Here is exactly what GN PDF does and does not do, in plain language:

  • We do not upload your PDF. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, drop a PDF onto the editor, and watch. There is no POST /upload request. The file is read using the FileReader API directly into memory in your browser.
  • We do not store your file. There is no database to store it in. Once you close the tab, the file is gone from our side because it was never on our side.
  • We do not track what you do. Standard Google Analytics-style page-view counts exist for the site (so we know which tools are popular), but we have no access to your file contents, your text edits, your signature, or anything else inside the editor.
  • What we DO use: light, clearly-labelled display ads from AdSense (so the tools can stay free), and your browser's local storage for non-sensitive preferences like which language you picked and the signatures you've drawn (these stay on your device only).

FAQ — straight answers

Is GN PDF really free?
Yes — every tool is free, with no daily caps, no watermark on output, no sign-up and no payment wall. We are funded by light, clearly-labelled advertising, not by your data.
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool on GN PDF runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript libraries (pdf-lib, pdf.js, fabric.js, SheetJS, mammoth.js, docx.js). Your file never travels over the network. We do not see it, store it, or log it.
How is this different from iLovePDF, Smallpdf or Sejda?
Those services upload your PDF to their servers to do the work — which is convenient but means trusting them with your file. GN PDF moves the entire processing step into your own browser. The privacy difference is the same as the difference between editing a Word document on your laptop versus emailing it to a stranger to edit.
Which PDF tools does GN PDF have?
A full editor (text, images, signature, shapes, annotation, whiteout, layers), Merge, Split, Rotate, Organise, Compress, JPG / PNG / WebP to PDF, PDF to JPG / PNG / WebP / Text, Word / Excel / PowerPoint / HTML to PDF, PDF to Word / Excel / PowerPoint, Unlock, Protect (AES-256), Redact, Watermark and OCR — 25+ tools in total.
Does GN PDF work on mobile?
Yes — the entire site is responsive. Editing complex PDFs on a tiny screen is still a pain (that is true everywhere), but every tool runs on iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile, Samsung Internet and Firefox Mobile.
Can I edit Marathi, Hindi or Arabic text in a PDF?
Yes. The editor supports complex script shaping (Devanagari, Bengali, Tamil, Arabic, Thai and more) using the browser's native text engine. Click any existing Marathi or Hindi text — it becomes editable while preserving matras and conjuncts.

A note from the team

We built GN PDF because we got tired of the same broken pattern across every free PDF site — upload your file, wait, watch an ad, get a watermarked output, hit a daily limit, see a "buy premium" popup. We wanted a place where the tools just work, the privacy story is genuine, and the only money we ever take from you is one display ad per session (politely labelled). If you've found this site useful, the best thing you can do for us is tell one person. A WhatsApp share, a tweet, a forum mention — that is how we grow. There is no ad budget, no growth team, no funding round. Just a tool that hopefully does what you needed it to do.
